Hi friends,

How was your fall season?  Are you ready for winter?

I am a busy beaver!  Fall always makes me scurry around faster.  As if my cells want me to prepare for hibernation.  Or bury nuts and seed.  Do something now while the sun is out, before the snow comes.

I have a few new video projects I am working on and about 30 little sculptures created.  The sculptures are waiting to be painted and the videos are waiting for sound.  I also have tons of finished paintings waiting to be scanned and put online.  They are patient.  They will wait until I get some commissions done first.

The big news is that I have started a small business venture that is NOT art related and IS making me money.  And most importantly, I am having a ball!  So I will be slowing down my artmaking pace and focusing on my new business for a little while.  I am not ready to share that business here yet, but maybe down the road.  In the meantime, once the commissions are done, I plan to finish the sculptures and videos that are already in progress and then scan stuff and also work on the 30 or so paintings I have loitering about my studio waiting to be finished.

I love making art.  I cannot imagine my life without paint and canvas.  But I have come to truly hate selling art.  Not the release of the art itself.  I have no attachment to the finished product, I just love the process of creation.  But the marketing and begging people to come see things and then building listings and the billing and the begging people to keep their word and pay what they said and the packaging and shipping.  Ugh.  And these days no one seems to be shopping for art.  So if no one sees your work, then your chances of selling are sad.

The piling up of art is a challenge, though.  I literally have stacks and stacks of art.  A while back, I sold ALL of my existing inventory to one collector and it was SO wonderful to have empty shelves and drawers.  For about a month.  Until I was back to my wildly prolific painting habits.

So I must find some kind of solution!  If any of you have any ideas, please email me and share them.  I do not need a way to make tons of money from my art, but I do need a way to connect with a broad audience.  For stuff to be seen.  I am not sure how to get stuff seen anymore.  But I will keep thinking on that and I will get new stuff up to share as soon as I can.

In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you have much to be grateful for.  I know I do.

Sending love,
Melissa
