This bright sunny painting is sure to bring smiles to any room.  It is a warm treat.  A Little Love is the latest in a long series of heart paintings that have been evolving through my work for some time.  I enjoy using symbols, especially working them into my abstract compositions.  This painting also continues my interest in the subtle inclusion of language in art.  There are three simple sentences painted in very small letters in the lower right corner.  The words read, "Love is always fragile.  Practice being gentle.  Practice being brave."

First, I primed the board with black acrylic gesso.  Next, I painted a bold expressionist image filled with all the colors of the rainbow.  I used a dental tool to "engrave" lines into the paint.  To define a rectangle that would eventually hold the very small heart.  And once that layer had dried, I painted a thin layer of oranges and yellows atop it all.  I used soft brushes to paint highlights and lowlights in key areas.  And small detail brushes to add brightly colored lines around the box and to paint the small heart and the words.
