A Vision

Acrylic on masonite

(Detailed scans)
A Vision is the newest in a series of layered, textured, poetic dove pieces that I have been creating over the past year. First, I primed a masonite board with black gesso, then I covered it with fine-grade ceramic stucco designed specifically for use by artists. I covered that with an expressionist layer of deep blues and greens. Spiked in a few bits of bright vibrant color and then covered it all with warm beige and soft pink. Finally, I rubbed and scraped through various layer scratching down to the stucco and creating wonderful organic abrasions. I also used a dental tool to scratch in a heart, allowing the dove form to stand out.
This piece continues my interest in the subtle inclusion of language in art. There are four phrases "engraved" in the paint with a dental tool. They run along each side facing in all four directions and they read... "I do not have the answers." "I do not know the way." "All I have is a vision of goodness." "Love is enough for me."
