This painting is so delicious!
In person, it glimmers. I mixed small amounts of iridescent
gold and bronze and antiqued silver into this composition which give
it a magical luminance, an inviting glow. And the many layers
of unusual hues are such a treat. This piece feels like a square
of rich European chocolate. A hopeful reminder of the sweet
surprises life can bring. This painting continues my interest
in the subtle inclusion of language in art. There are several
phrases painted in very tiny letters near the bottom of the panel.
The words read, "No matter what I am seeking or which direction I
run... I always discover the same answer. Only love.
Always only love." This piece is a comment on our human desire for more and on my personal experience of years and years spent seeking. Always I re-discover what I have instinctually understood all of my life. Every joy in life comes back to knowing that we are loved. And every crisis in life comes down to doubting that love. Always Only Love was created in layers. First, I primed the square masonite panel with black acrylic gesso. Next, I used a palette knife to apply a thin layer of acrylic modeling past. I dragged the flat edge of the knife across the surface in every direction to create nice organic textures. Then I used a paint scraper to remove the texture from a small square "window". Once that layer dried, I used wide soft brushes to smoothly blend all sorts of interesting colors all across the panel. Gorgeous rich brown and taupes and honey colors. Surprising bits of magenta and blue-green. I layers colors on this piece for several days before using my smallest detail brushes to paint the very tiny heart and the accent lines and the words. This unique image was painted on a 15" square masonite wood panel. The sides of the panel have been painted black allowing you to display Always Only Love unframed. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. These panel pieces look nice displayed on small decorative easels. I have a friend who displays one unframed by simply leaning it against the wall on the mantel above his fireplace and it looks great that way, too.
No matter what I am seeking or which direction I run... I always discover the same answer. Only love. Always only love. |
