(Details)

This soft, moving painting is such a gentle surprise.  It has layer upon layer of colors, words, feelings, textures, details, etc.  I used to work in this style regularly, but it is really time consuming, so I rarely get to indulge myself anymore.  This painting has words carved into the surface with dental tools as well as words painted in all directions across the surface.  Both the carved and the painted words exist above and below layers of paint.  The words are mostly verbs.  Challenging words filled with possibility.  And they swirl in the winds of change that have picked this little house up and sent it off to new horizons.  Some of the more visible words include, "Believe, cry, try, share, create, taste, walk, grow, trust, adapt, serve, see, forgive, ask, and reach."  There are many more words, though.  And because some are "engraved", you will see different words when you stand on different sides of the piece or when the light hits it from different directions.

I am hopeful that this unusual image filled with soft color and important words will prepare you to embrace unexpected opportunities when they appear.

How Atmospheric Instability was created.....   This one took forever to complete.  I cannot recall the exact sequence of events that brought this painting to life, but there was some brush painting, some knife painting, some rubbing with a soft cloth, some "engraving" with dental tools, some soft washes, lots of careful detail work, some dripping of water and blotting, and maybe a bit of finger-painting, too.

(The sides of the canvas are painted with a mottled mix of greens and blues. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.)

This piece was painted on a gallery-wrapped stretched canvas with staple free sides.  The sides have been painted in colors that accent the image and this piece looks beautiful displayed unframed.
