This sweet, quiet painting feels like the respite I am seeking every Holiday season when things get crazy.  There is something hushed and reverent here.  Something soothing.  There are soft layers of color, a simple well-balanced composition and a peaceful inspired glow.  Beacon is a small reminder to seek out the unspoiled places in life.

This painting is a case of matching just the right materials with the right dream/vision.  Gouache is exactly right here.  It would not have been nearly so magical had I created it in acrylic or oil pastel.  This media is particularly delicate and dreamlike.  Gouache is an opaque form of watercolor and I build my gouache paintings up with many light washes before completing them with key details created with tiny detail brushes.
