This painting is too large to scan in its entirety. The first image is a digital photo. The detailed scans below offer a more accurate picture of the gorgeous hues and textures in this piece. This is a palette knife painting. No brushes were used in the creation of this image. A small brush was only used after the painting was done in order to add the words and my signature.

This piece is from a series of abstract expressionist paintings that I created in 2004. I think of them as "The Four Corners Series" because each painting has words in all four corners. Here is a peak at the whole series...

This beautiful expressionist
painting is the latest in a series of expressionist abstract pieces
I have been painting for the past year. I have two more pieces
from this series in the works and I think that will complete the
group. Being Human is a light, open, textured image filled
with subtle hues and textures. It also continues my interest
in the integration of language into visual art. There is a
ingle word painted in small letters in each corner. The words
in this piece read, "Loyalty, Pain, Indecision, Faith." It is
a comment on the challenges we face when we commit to love someone
long-term. This bright, peaceful painting is sure to bring a touch of contemplative light to any room. Being Human is a textured palette knife painting. First, I primed the wood with black acrylic gesso and then I applied a layer of artist-quality fine ceramic stucco to the lower section of the painting. When that had dried, I applied paint directly from the tubes to the stucco area and blended the colors with my palette knife. After the lower half of the painting was complete and fully dried, I then applied paint directly from the tubes to the upper portion of the painting and once again blended the colors with my palette knife. I finished by using my tiny detail brush to add the words and my signature. Being Human was painted on a wood panel. The image continues around the sides of the panel and there is a saw tooth hanger on the back allowing you to hang this unique piece unframed.
