This is such an unusual painting.  The colors are so organic and urban at the same time.  Really exciting.  And there are so many textures to feel and lines to follow.  This is one of those pieces I worked at off and on for a long time.  Adding bits here and there.  It was always fun to work on, like a treat I indulged in between my more serious works.  I love creating these wild expressionist pieces.  It's cathartic.  Obviously this piece is about connections.  In particular, it is about that magnetic pull I feel with certain people.  That unexplainable, edgy sort of pull.  The kind that makes me want to run and hide but I know that hiding won't do me any good.  Because I can feel destiny at work and I know that certain choices will never really be up to me.  It is a really dynamic painting and I hope it brings a bit of excitement and passion to the home of some fellow romantic out there.

How Connected Somehow was created.....   This one has a bit of everything thrown into the mix.  Palette-knife painting, finger-painting, brush painting, rubbing with cloth, scraping with scrapers, abrading with sharp stuff, engraving with dental tools, etc.  It is mostly bold, emotional, gestural painting, but there is also some fine detail work hidden in there, too.  It is one of those everything-but-the-kitchen-sink paintings.  They are the most satisfying ones, I think.  This piece does include a small amount of metallic paint that makes it shimmer in the light.  Mostly antiqued gold and dark steely silver but a wee touch of bright gold, too.  It is all really well worked into the piece and adds a nice bit of depth.

(The image and textures continue around the sides of the canvas. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.)

This canvas does have staples on the sides, so if that sort of thing bothers you, you might want to frame your new painting.  The sides are so covered in textures and colors that the staples are barely noticeable and I would be completely comfortable displaying this painting unframed.  It is a really distinctive piece that looks beautiful when displayed on a small decorative easel or hung directly on the wall.  ***NOTE: I can include a new black, wood, mission-style display easel with your order for just $10.00. Please email me and let me know if you would like one.
