Small houses and doves are two symbols that recur frequently in my work, but this is the first time they have appeared together in one piece.  This image came to me with a very specific story and I had words all ready to add to the painting, but once the image was laid out, I couldn't add them.  The composition was so elegant and the images so direct that I felt words would be a distraction in this case.  Destiny has beautiful, subtle colors and textures.  It reminds me of some sort of scroll or tapestry from another era.  It is a unique image sure to bring a bit of spirited magic to any home or work space.

I began by priming a canvas panel with black acrylic gesso.  Then I painted a wild, fun, expressionist painting filled with browns and oranges and reds.  I used an ice-scraper to remove the colors and textures from a small rectangle.  And after that layer dried, I rubbed golden yellows and warm ochre over the surface with a soft cloth.  Finally, I used tiny detail brushes to paint the sweet dove and the small house.  I limited myself to black and white and gray for the symbols because I wanted them to stay bold and pure.
