It has been quite a while since I last created one of these highly textured finger-paintings.  I love this style.  It is so playful and dynamic and it just begs to be touched.  This particular painting is a bright sunny treat.  I smile every time I see this potted plant enjoying a bit of the great outdoors.  It is a helpful reminder to me that I need to get outside and soak up a bit of sunlight everyday.  Fresh air and warm light and blue skies ALWAYS make me feel better.  I forget that when I am stressed.  I think cookies will make me feel better.  I think working more will make me feel better.  But nothing makes me feel better like getting outside does.  My Dad once told me that there is a nomadic tribe in Africa where the word house translates to "coffin for the living".  There is definitely something to that.  Even if it is rainy or windy or cold out, I still feel better after a half hour outside.

I am hopeful these brightly colored flowers that have escaped to a private hill will bring smiles and a warm fresh breeze to your home or office.

How Fresh Air Always Helps was created.....   After I primed this board with black acrylic gesso, I used my fingers to move paint from my palette to the board.    I applied and mixed the colors by patting the board (like playing a drum.)  It was a VERY messy process and my hands got thick with paint, but it was a lot of fun and I think that fun comes through in this piece.  There are tiny flecks of surprising color hidden in the grass and the sky.  I finished the painting by using tiny detail brushes to define the flowers.

(The image and textures continue around the sides of the board. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.)

This piece was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.
