Ooh is this painting yummy.  There are such varied textures and so many colors floated in subtle layers.  It is a rich, rich image.  You will want to touch this one.  Guidance evolved over many days of painting and contains bits and pieces of everything I have learned about painting until now.  There is finger-painting and palette knife painting and brush painting.  There are bold expressionist parts and soft delicate parts and bright beckoning parts.  There is warm light and a cool blue sky and an engaging, open composition.  And then there are those expressive symbolic trees.  This painting also continues my interest in the mixture of language with art.  There is a single phrase painted in very small, soft-blue letters in the lower right part of the sky.  The sentence reads, "We all need guidance."

I am hopeful this sunny thoughtful image of assistance will warm the home of some fellow student-of-life out there.

So much went into this piece, that I cannot begin to describe the process of its development.  There were too many steps to remember.  I can tell you that the "bumpy" areas were finger-painted and the sky was mostly created with a palette knife.  I used small brushes to add the words and some highlights.  And somewhere in there I rubbed color on with a soft cloth and abraded that layer with scratchy paper.  The result of all this activity is a richly varied, natural surface that appears both timelessly weathered and thoroughly modern.
