This is such a compelling piece in person.  I have been painting doves for years now, but this one stands out as my most dramatic and expressive dove to date.  As well as my largest.  Honor is a beautiful moving image of hope filled with incredibly vibrant hues and active, natural textures.  It also continues my interest in the use of language in art with five important words painted in very small letters in the lower right.  They read, "Humility. Patience. Compassion. And love."

I would like for this dynamic piece to bring a bit of passion and hope to your home or office.  And perhaps also serve as a reminder to keep believing.  The world needs more people with vision and faith.

How Honor was created.....   This piece is the result of so many different applications, that I cannot begin to recreate its evolution.  I can say, though, that it contains many, many layers of color and many different textures.  I used modeling paste and my fingers to create the three-dimensional ridges that became the lines of the elegant dove.  I used palette knives to paint most of the abstract expressionist background, and I used brushes to paint the dove.  Finally, I used tiny detail brushes to add key highlights and to paint the words.

Honor was painted on a fine, hand-stretched canvas. A fellow in Arizona makes these just for professional artists. It is incredibly sturdy, built on hefty kiln-dried wood that will keep your painting in proper shape for generations. The sides of the canvas have been lightly textured and painted black providing a striking profile and allowing you to display your new painting unframed if you like.
