This painting brings together so much of what I have learned about art-making in the past few years. It is my most successful abstract to date. There are layers and layers of subtle hues and unusual textures. There are teeny bits of iridescent paint glinting here and there giving the piece its own light source, a magical sort of glow. There is a touching, symbolic landscape and calming, poetic words. And finally, there is a vibrant, emotional sense of action and energy combined with a peaceful, open composition. The end result is a painting which is both playful and meditative.
Irrigation continues my interest in the subtle use of language in art. There are two sentences painted in very small letters in the lower right corner. They are a comment on the necessity of balance and the inevitability of confusion. They read, "We all have storms to weather. Our happiness hides in those dark clouds."
