This is a finger-painting. No brushes or tools were used in the creation of this image. A small brush was only used after the painting was done in order to add the words and my signature.

3.75" x 3.75"
Acrylic on wood
The words in this piece read: Sing, Play, Touch, See
I enjoyed creating this painting so much! These abstract expressionist pieces are like rewards that I grant myself after completing squinty detailed pieces that give me headaches. This stuff is pure light. I hope they are as much fun to view as they were to make. Joy is one of a series of paintings that I have been working on for the past year. My "Four Corners Series" are all emotional, vibrant, expressionist paintings that contain words in each of their corners. Each piece has a different feel and the words are unique as well. I have come to think of these pieces as visual prayers for a happy balanced future. Joy contains the words, "Sing, Play, Touch, See".
Joy is a finger-painting. I used my fingers to apply paint right from my palette to the wood. I then blended colors by patting the wood with my fingertips (like playing a drum). It is a wild, messy process that has resulted in paint on every surface in my home and every item of clothing that I own. Literally. I buy paper towel in bulk and keep a bucket of water next to my easel so that I can clean up between colors. Finger-painting has allowed me to break out of the traditional story-telling type of art that I had been creating and venture into the more poetic territory of expressionist art. And it produces completely unique textures that are fun to touch, too.
Joy is a playful reminder to have fun everyday. I hope it will brighten the home or office of some fellow eternal-child out there.
