This piece makes me happy. I like that the bird exists in a place apart from the expected nature scene and I like that it's gazing up into some unknown time or place. These elements give the piece a slightly mythical feel. I think this unusual bird can see the future. It is an unusual, comforting painting.

I am hopeful that Just One Bird can bring a few positive daydreams to you and your family.

This painting was created in layers.  First, the board was primed with black acrylic gesso.  Next, I applied a thin layer of acrylic modeling paste with a palette knife, creating some subtle, tactile textures.  When that layer was almost dry, I used a set of dental tools to "engrave" the shape of this charming bird.  I scraped away the modeling paste inside that shape so the bird was a bit recessed.  It gives the bird a unique texture and makes him "pop" from the background.  Then, I used wide soft brushes to create the muted glowing painting behind the bird and I used tiny detail brushes to paint this interesting character.
