I have been working on this piece for over a month!  Painting words is hard work for me and very time consuming and this beautiful piece is filled with words.  The reason they take so long is that each letter is painted over several times.  In order to work it into the painting.  Because I am uncomfortable with text that just sits on top of an image.  This painting is an epic.  A wonderful statement of unity and diversity and shared human values.  It is a painting about how certain passions are universal to the human race and how our hearts are the same across all man-made boundaries.

The lines that divide the "nations" in are three dimensional ridges.  The stars mark capitol cities.  The words that mark cities and towns include:  Imagination, vision, faith, hope, loyalty, honor, purity, humor, compassion, kindness, love, courage, beauty, grace, passion, leadership, devotion, forgiveness, joy, respect, truth, maturity, friendship, serenity, humility, strength, celebration, trust, sensitivity, curiosity, creativity, flexibility, peace, and freedom.  The words in the map key read:  The boundaries between us are all artificial.

I created this piece as a fun image of connection for other folks out there who value different cultures and the experiences of people all around the globe.  I am hopeful it will bring smiles and interesting conversations to your home or office.

How Map was created.....   This piece was built up over many many many layers.  Some of the colors were applied with palette knives, some with my fingers, some with brushes, and some with a damp cloth.  The gorgeous naturally irregular ridges that divide this "landscape" were created by pushing modeling paste about with my fingers.  And all of the detail and words were painted over many squinty hours with teeny tiny brushes.

Map was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.

The boundaries between us are all artificial.
