This painting is too large to scan in its entirety.  The first and last images are digital photos.  The detailed scans below offer a more accurate picture of the gorgeous hues and textures in this piece.  This is a palette knife and finger-painting.  No brushes were used in the creation of this image.  A small brush was only used after the painting was done in order to add the words and my signature.

Meant to Be is a gorgeous, arresting image created with the vibrant, sunny colors of spring.  This is some of the best painting I have done so far in 2004.  The composition is clean and open; the colors just sing; the subject is accessible; and the application of paint is so energetic and passionate.  Meant to Be is one of those rare paintings capable of defining a room.  This one also continues my interest in the subtle inclusion of language in art.  In very, very small letters in the bottom right corner is a single sentence that reads, "Some connections are impossible to ignore, explain, escape."

I can not recall when I first started using trees as stand-ins for people, but trees have figured heavily in my work for years now.  They have symbolically stood for so many important ideals throughout my career.  I consider trees to be among my closest allies.  Meant to Be casts two trees as soul-mates of sorts.  Keeping each other company in a quiet corner of paradise.
