I do not think it is possible for human beings to achieve perfection and our emphasis in Western culture on doing just that is robbing us of life's sweetness and joy.  But I believe nature is inherently perfect and the surest way to cure sadness is to open yourself up to the beauty nature offers.  To soak in nature's perfect moments.  At their best, paintings offer folks a chance to hold on to a piece of that magic and save it for days that may be less colorful.  Less natural.

I am hopeful that this vibrant image of nature will be a comfortable reminder in your home that the world is well.  Despite what the evening news may say.  There are many more quiet moments of peace in this world than moments of violence.  Many many more.  Remember that.  Peace and quiet just don't sell ad time.

How Perfection was created.....   Obviously this piece is all about color and it was from the start.  There are some intriguing textures, too, but they are only side notes to the color.  The underpainting here was completed with brushes and was mainly pastel tones.  Then I used a soft damp cloth to rub deep vibrant washes of color over the surface.  Like staining wood almost.  That method of applying pigment offers some lush, natural irregularities.  Much more real that brush work.  After I had applied many layers of "stain" with the soft cloth and allowed those layers to dry between applications, I took tiny detail brushes and cleaned up some edges, added a few key highlights, and signed and dated the painting.

(The image continues around the sides of the canvas. This is a rather crummy digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.)

Perfection was created on a beautiful "deep-dish" gallery wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  It looks striking when displayed as it is, without framing.  Either hang it directly on the wall or this piece will also stand on edge just fine, so you could display it that way on your bookshelf, end table or desk.

***NOTE:  In general, I am not a huge fan of varnish.  I find the glare distracting and am not always tickled by the uniformity it brings to surface textures.  And varnish is unnecessary most of the time.  Acrylic paint is very stable.  You can assume my pieces are being offered unvarnished unless the description states otherwise.  Occasionally, I do choose to varnish a piece if I feel the colors need a bit of added depth or if I know the piece will be handled often.  If you order this painting and you know that it will be sitting unframed on a table or shelf, feel free to request a coat of varnish.  Pieces displayed in that manner often get handled and in that case, varnish makes sense.  I am happy to add one or more coats of clear gloss varnish if you request it.  I use a top quality brush-on product that will not yellow or crack.
