This beautiful dog has really grown on me. I have never actually met him, but I feel like I have. Aren't those soulful eyes terrific? This pure heart has picked some flowers for a lucky friend. He is captured here with gorgeous vibrant colors and light, sunny, Spring composition. I began this piece by priming a "deep dish" canvas with black gesso and then drawing out the image with a teeny detail brush and white paint. I got the composition set pretty early on, but had to work through many many drafts of this dog before I got the emotion right. And I was surprised to find the piece taking on a bit of pop-art flavor. I am really pleased with the final result. This is a fun, charming painting that just feels good.
