This painting is so bold!  The colors just sing.  It is a festive celebration.  But not a frivolous one.  Recycling is a powerful image of renewal and balance.  A reminder that energy always ebbs and flows.  That the universe always recycles.  Much of the line work in this piece - including the unusual flower - was  created with a dental tool when the paint was almost dry.  This technique of "engraving" lines produces an intriguingly timeless feel.  Both weathered and new.  It is really exciting to see and feel.  Recycling is my comment on the inevitable death/rebirth of all living things.  Have you ever noticed that when trees (which produce oxygen) lose their leaves, they look a lot like lungs (which use oxygen)?  Or that certain flowers look like the drawings we often see of atoms?  Or that vast prairies look an awful lot like vast oceans?  Energy can take a lot of different forms.  All glorious and mysterious and beyond science.  Divine.

I am hopeful this burning original painting will bring a bit of magic and inspiration to the home of some thoughtful gardener out there.

How this piece was created....   The background is mostly palette knife painting with lots of scrubbing and scraping and smoothing and softening.  I used an ice scraper, dental tools, a soft cloth, a wet cloth, and a wide variety of brushes to create this one.  The lines are engraved and then some were painted as well.

This piece was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel.
