This piece is from very early in my
return to the art world. I had been working as a 9-5 business
person and not making art and not knowing anything about myself and
feeling very lost. And then I quit my corporate life and
almost immediately, the art started to come. These early
landscapes were very surreal. Very foreign. Maybe
because I was so far removed from nature back then that nature
seemed alien? I don't know. But many of them have this
vaguely ominous feel to them. This is a particularly powerful
piece filled with unusual color and active lines. With a
composition that is a bit conflicted. Unusual for my work.
These days my compositions are almost always wide open and
meditative. These colored pencil pieces are VERY labor intensive. I probably worked on this drawing for a couple of weeks. Back then I needed more time to find my way than I do today. And these colors required many many many layers in order to reach the depth and the subtle transitions that you see here. This original colored pencil piece has already been matted and is being offered for sale unframed. You will want to frame it to protect your investment.
