I love this painting. It is all about color. Color and lines and boundaries or edges. It is a treat for the eyes. I love to look at this one. There is nothing life-changing here, but it is very comforting and somehow invigorating, too. Like fresh flowers or a bouquet of fall leaves. This piece also continues my interest in the subtle inclusion of language in art. It has a single phrase painted in very small letters that reads, "The seasons always change." An obvious reminder to be patient. This too shall pass. I am hopeful that Slow Turning will bring a fresh perspective and splash of color to your home or office. How Slow Turning was created..... This one took a long time to develop. I worked on this little gem off and on for over a week. The composition was set early on and the lines were defined, but the color fields evolved through many many many hues. There are layers of contrasting and complimentary color and spicy highlights, too. The result is an usually rich stew of earthy colors. I retraced those fine black lines after each layer, so they have lots of character, too.
(The image continues around the sides of the canvas. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.) Slow Turning was created on a beautiful "deep-dish" gallery wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. It looks striking when displayed as it is, without framing. Either hang it directly on the wall or this piece will also stand on edge just fine, so you could display it that way on your bookshelf, end table or desk.
