I always smile when I see this piece. The colors are electric and give off a feeling of warm summer fun. And the composition is active and interesting. But mainly this piece is all about the birds. The yellow birds in the background are cute, but this pink bird is unique, the one to watch. Can't you just see the wheels turning in that tiny bird brain? The pink bird has it going on. I am hopeful that this playful colorful image of one self-possessed little bird will bring smiles and light to your home or office. I began this piece with white gesso primer that I tinted to a very pale green blue color. Then I built the image up over many layers. I allowed the layers to peak out around the edges of this vignette so that you can see a bit of the creative process as it unfolded. Smug Pink Bird was painted on an acid-free, neutral colored mat board. In order to protect your investment, you will want to frame this painting. One way to save money on framing is to select a standard sized 8" x 10" frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the art together to a custom-framing shop. They can mat the art to fit the frame.
