What a glorious bird! This painting makes me very happy.
I smile every time I see it.
I do not want to write too much about this one. I think the image says enough on its own. But I will say that the colors and textures of this piece are even more engaging in person. And there are very small amounts of iridescent blue and iridescent steel gray mixed into the water so that the sea shimmers faintly in the light. How Soaring was created..... This piece was built up over many layers. Some of the colors were applied with palette knives, some with my fingers, some with brushes, and some with a damp cloth. I used a lot of transparent washes to give the sky and the water depth. And I used tiny detail brushes to paint the inspired bird. There are also two feint bird outlines - one above the white bird and one below. They are very rough sketches. Normally when I rough in subjects like that, I either paint them in fully or paint them out fully. But I really liked these two as they were, so I included them in the finished piece. Soaring was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
