Stillness

This is a finger-painting. No brushes or tools were used in the creation of this image. A small brush was only used after the painting was done in order to add the words and my signature. This painting is too large to scan in its entirety, so the first image is a digital photo. The detailed scans below offer the most accurate glimpse of this sweet, peaceful painting.

This piece is from a series of abstract expressionist paintings that I have been working on over the last year. I think of them as "The Four Corners Series" because each painting has words in all four corners. There are seven new pieces from this series available now. All past images from this series have sold. At least for the foreseeable future, I do not plan on creating any additional "Four Corners" pieces. Here is a peak at the complete series...

This sweet painting is far richer in person then my scans could convey. It is a gorgeous, soothing, unique painting. The words in this piece read, "Breathing, Resting, Listening, Knowing". It is a meditative statement about being present and relaxing into the knowledge you already possess. This painting is sure to bring a fresh breeze of hopeful quiet to any home or work space.

Stillness is a finger-painting. I apply paint right from the tubes to the canvas and then blend colors by patting the canvas with my fingertips (like playing a drum). It is a wild, messy process that has resulted in paint on every surface in my home and every item of clothing that I own. Literally. I buy paper towel in bulk and keep a bucket of water next to my easel so that I can clean up between colors. Finger-painting has allowed me to break out of the traditional story-telling type of art that I had been creating and venture into the more poetic territory of expressionist art. I have had a ball creating these pieces!
