Oil pastel on acid-free mat board

(Details)

Teddy represents my biggest drawing accomplishment to date.  This drawing has an incredible array of unusual subtle hues; beautiful, elegant lines; and a wonderful plump fuzzy feel.  It has taken me 400 works of art to get to the point where I can render this clearly.  I love this drawing.  I was stunned when it arrived and I remained stunned by this piece today.  It is worth all of the endless messes and near misses I have endured to experience the joy of creating something this pure and true.  This piece flowed out of me in two very long drawing sessions that I will never forget.  I hope it will brighten the home or office of some fellow eternal child out there.

I began by roughing out this composition and then laying down a layer of bright, bold colors.  Then I used a straight-edged razor blade to scrape that layer of oil pastel off and leave the mat board stained with a subtle underpainting.  Then I layered and layered and layered and scratched and blended and scratched and blended.

Teddy was drawn on a piece of acid-free mat board.  This original drawing would look lovely displayed with a neutral mat and a warm-toned wood frame.  Or any other combination that pleases you.  This drawing is being offered unframed.

(How Teddy might look in a standard-sized 11" x 14" frame.)
