This clean, clear painting is like eye-candy for thoughtful eyes.  There are all sorts of layers and colorful surprises lurking within this seemingly simple painting.  And those symbolic houses just touch on some common dream, don't they?  This piece has a fabulous open composition and the scuffed up textures of a postcard sent from far away.

I primed the canvas with black gesso and then coated it with acrylic modeling paste.  I scratched and rubbed the paste to create the three separate spaces, and then I used my fingers to rub on several layers of dark tones.  Once that had almost dried, I used a wet cloth to rub the dark paint off the central areas.  Then I used a wide soft brush to apply many many warm washes and layers of white.  Then I spiked the sides of each "window" with bright colors and I painted the unique, individual houses.
