This thoughtful, textured expressionist abstract is an intriguing, layered image painted on a wooden panel designed specifically for use by artists. There is a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang this piece flush with the wall and display it unframed. The sides are painted black. First, I primed the board with black gesso and then covered it with acrylic modeling paste. When the modeling paste was still tacky, I carefully pulled a palette knife across the surface creating gorgeous, tactile, soft ridges. I covered that with a variety of subtle hues and then used a soft cotton towel to rub off the color in a circular pattern. And I used a dental tool to scratch a small heart into the surface. Finally, I used a teeny detail brush to paint the symbolic heart and to add the words.
