When I Am Ready is a warm, emotional landscape. An image of that time between seasons when everything is limbo and the weather is always a surprise. It is an unusual piece with intriguing textures and bold colors that give it a dream-like quality. In tiny black letters along the bottom ridge are the words, “I will change at my own pace.” I am hopeful this small expressive landscape will bring patience and a touch of the unexpected to your home or office. How When I Am Ready was created..... Once the black gesso primer dried, I used my fingers to push high-viscosity black paint into active, naturally irregular, three dimensional ridges that became the lines of this piece. Then I used wide soft brushes to apply many many transparent washes of color. When the washes had dried, I used my fingertips to apply a few highlights and then switched to very tiny detail brushes to paint the finest highlights and to touch up the black lines and to add the words.
(The sides of the board have been painted black. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.) When I Am Ready was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel. It is also very stable standing on edge and can be displayed that way on a shelf or table.
