What You Need

This painting is a prescription. Just what the Doctor ordered. When you are feeling blue or lost or afraid, you just remember the piece. It is a beautiful, expressive abstract filled with rich natural colors and featuring an unusual three-part composition. In the three "windows" are three different tree scenes, each depicting trees of different shapes and sizes. One featuring a solitary tree, one featuring a couple, and one featuring a small family of trees. On the border around each image is a single word and those words are, "Nature", "Quiet" and "Perspective".

I am hopeful this striking image of three different arrangements in nature and three different words to promote spiritual health will keep you balanced in times of trouble.

How What You Need was created..... Once the alizarin crimson gesso primer dried, I painted the entire board in a wild expressionist image filled with reds and pinks and oranges and browns. Once that underpainting dried, I used soft brushes and thinned washes to layer transparent color in quiet natural ways. I used a dental tool to scratch in the divisions that created the three separate windows and then used a soft cloth to rub on deeper shades of blue, green and yellow in each of the separate spaces. Finally, I used tiny detail brushes to paint the various scenes, add the words, and paint the many edges, borders and highlights which contain all sorts of surprising colorful bits.

What You Need was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel. It is also very stable standing on edge and can be displayed that way on a shelf or table. ***NOTE: I can include a new black, wood, mission-style display easel with your order for just $10.00. These art-boards are not available to the general public in this size. I spoke with the fellow who runs that business and explained that I love his product, but I sometimes get tired of squares and square-ish rectangles. He agreed to create some funky shapes just for me and I am thrilled. I love these!
