Wishes Granted is so beautiful.  It is really a special piece.  I would like to keep it for myself, but I know I am not supposed to do that.  This is one of my very favorite paintings of all time.  I do not know if it will translate well in digital media, but the original painting is filled with soft, shimmering layers of color.  I mixed in small amount of several different metallic hues including a rich warm gold around the center and a soft cool antiqued silver around the outer edges.  The result is a glimmering affect that brings to mind timeless dreams - old treasures and modern possibilities.  It is a magical feeling I did not set out to create and one that I was absolutely thrilled to find.

In many Native American traditions, crows represent spiritual strength, creativity, and the ability to adapt to change.  I have always related strongly to crows and consider them a personal totem.  Crows have appeared often in my work.

This unusual painting features elegant color, a clean open composition, a variety of intriguing textures and a beautiful hopeful bird.  It also contains the words, "Ask.  Believe.  Be patient."  A recipe for wish fulfillment.  I would like for this glowing image to bring you comfort and faith in the magical possibilities of this world.

How Wishes Granted was created.....   Once the black gesso primer dried, I used wide soft brushes to layer rich transparent washes of color.  I used warm reds, pinks and oranges as well cool purple and deep umber and a few shades of ochre yellow.  I also used small amounts of metallic gold, copper, silver and bronze in various shades.  I used a palette knife to paint the real active parts in the center of this composition.  And then I used dental picks to scratch through the layers and define the center "window".  Finally, I used tiny detail brushes to paint the special bird and the words and to add a few highlights.

(The image continues around the sides of the board. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.)

Wishes Granted was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel. It is also very stable standing on edge and can be displayed that way on a shelf or table.

Ask.  Believe.  Be patient.
