Lately, my entire consciousness is tuned to memory. And I remember how much I loved wooly bear caterpillars as a kid. The words in this piece read, "Each spring I watch for wooly bears."
This painting is so bright and clear and calming. It is a sunny treasure sure to brighten any room. There are beautiful hues; crisp details; and a wonderful, open composition.
Wooly Bear was created on an incredible new support that I have just discovered. It is a thick, sturdy, masonite panel coated with traditional, archival, rabbit-skin glue and then covered with a beautiful piece of fine Belgian linen. The company that makes these panels goes top-of-the-line all the way. They even go so far as to perfectly line up the grain of the linen with the angles of the panel. And then the linen is primed with an authentic gesso created from an old world traditional recipe. The kind of primer I would make myself if I were wealthier and had far more patience. Just look at the detailed scan above and you can clearly see how much finer the grain than a traditional cotton canvas. It was a treat to work on such a nice surface.
