Oil pastel on acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details)

(This drawing has been custom-framed in a beautiful Scandinavian-style blond wood molding with a white acid-free rag mat and quality glass that protects the art from harsh UV rays.  There is a hanging wire on the back.)

This is a sweet, soft, peaceful moment.  And it represents the first time I have ever insisted on framing a piece.  Because the colors and lines and lights and darks are so delicately balanced, framing is a sensitive issue.  I feel so strongly that this drawing requires a specific type of framing, that I have taken the liberty of having it framed at my local framers before offering it here for sale.

This warm airy image is soothing and fresh and I am hopeful it will bring a natural bit of tranquility to the walls of your home or office.

How A Better Day was created.....   Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  As I often do, I laid down a VERY bright underpainting and then used a straight-edged razor blade to strip that off, leaving behind colorful stains on the mat board.  Next, I built up layers and layers of colors from darker colors to lighter ones.  And I finished with some key highlights and lowlights.

This drawing was created on acid-free mat board.  It will be shipped ready-to-hang in the custom-framed arrangement shown.
