All of Us

Completed in 2007

8" x 10"

Acrylic on gallery stretched canvas

The words in this piece read:  We are fine.

(Enlarged to show details.  This piece is visibly textured and many of the lines are raised three-dimensional ridges.)

These new pieces mark an important change in my work.  A return to something essential that went dormant for a while.  A kind of whimsical joy.  A sense that all is right with the world.  It feels so good to find that deep optimism again.  To see happiness in my art.  Contagious happiness.  These new pieces were a thrill to create and I hope they bring you smiles, too.

In this piece we have an odd gathering of birds and the words:  We are fine.

The media tells us hope is lost.  The world is ending.  We are all going down in a string of serial murders and sweeping wildfires.  But the truth is that we are fine.  Humanity has always walked a line between creating and destroying.  Striking an uneasy balance.  And while there are very real problems facing us today, there are also real reasons to believe we can meet those challenges and live well in spite of our mistakes.  We are fine.

The ripe orange color in this makes me happy, too.

How All of Us was created.....   First, I primed this board with black acrylic gesso.  Then I used my fingers to push acrylic paint into these wonderfully organic and irregular raised ridges that became the lines of this piece.  I let those ridges dry.  Then the first layer of color is all fingerpainting.  That is where the texturing comes from.  I mix colors by patting the tips of my fingers in my palette first and then across the surface of the board.  As I lift my fingertips from the surface, they pull the paint up into tiny ridges and patterns.  It is a lovely affect.  I cleared that texturing from the heart, so that is the only smooth surface in this piece.  The next layers of color were applied with palette knives and brushes.

(The textured sides are painted to match so you can display this painting unframed if you like.)

This piece was created on a gallery stretched canvas primed with black acrylic gesso.  The image continues around the staple-free sides.  This painting may be displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a decorative display easel.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.

POSTCARDS

After years of searching, I finally found a commercial printer willing to run small batches of multiple designs at an affordable rate!  These postcards feature vibrant high-resolution reproductions of my work on glossy cardstock.  The backsides are typically blank but may contain a copyright notice.  While these cards may be sent through the postal system, I opted not to have the backsides printed with mailing graphics for two reasons.   I wanted to keep costs down so I could sell these for super-affordable prices.  And most of my customers report using postcards for display purposes, not for mailing.  These are display quality art and would look lovely framed.

To purchase 3 postcards (measuring 3.75" x 8") of this image for $9.95, please use the button immediately below these words.  Shipping provided for free.  For a limited time, plain white envelopes also included at no charge.
