What a fabulous way to start the New Year! I love this
painting! I know it will not appeal to all of you, but I
expect it may really tickle the right person. The two
characters in this image just popped into the painting fully formed.
And with such fabulous expressions that I could not resist adding
the words, "I get angry sometimes." This piece is filled with
rich organic textures that beg to be touched and bright "angry"
colors that jump from the surface. It is a unique, playful
painting guaranteed to elicit some reaction from even casual
viewers. And I am hopeful it will bring a joyous bit of
emotion to the home of some occasionally-angry soul out there with
an unusual sense of humor. How Angry was created..... After priming this board with black acrylic gesso, I used palette knives to create a wild expressionist painting filled with dark hues and agitated textures. Then I used an ice-scraper to remove the colors and textures from two "windows" and allowed everything to dry. Next I used a variety of brushes to create that fabulous dragon and the fun little crabby bird. And to paint the words and key highlights. This piece evolved over many layers.
(The sides have been painted deep navy blue and black. This is a digital photo. The scans above are more accurate.) Angry was painted on a wooden board created specifically for use by artists. It has a recessed slot in the back allowing you to hang it flush with the wall. The sides of the board have been painted as well so that this piece would look wonderful displayed unframed either directly on the wall or on a small, decorative table-top easel. It is also very stable standing on edge and can be displayed that way on a shelf or table.
