About to Get in Trouble

This funny kitten belongs to a customer.  The customer sent many photos of her kittens and in nearly all of them, this little girl looked like she was up to something.  She looked like a ton of fun and an accident waiting to happen.  Just looking at her cracks me up.  I know this drawing is a wee bit more "expressive" or animated than my traditional animal portraits, but this cat seems more animated, too.  This is how she came to me.

This is a bold vibrant painting.  The colors are really rich and full.  It is much more satisfying in person than these scans can convey.

How this drawing was created.....   First, I laid down several different base coats of color and used a straight edged razor blade to strip each one away, leaving stains that create a vivid underpainting.  Then I layered luscious colors atop that base.  Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  After I completed all of the color work, I used a dental tool to scratch through to the ink below in order to create sharper edges.

About to Get in Trouble is part of the small series I refer to as Lisa's Friends.  Here they are....
