Oil pastel on white acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details)

Drawing and painting little white house on sunny hillsides is a form of therapy for me.  These scenes symbolize peace, serenity, simplicity, and perspective for me.  They represent letting go of everything that clutters our view of life and paying attention to those things that matter.  This particular drawing is filled with gorgeous deep colors and has such a warm sense of summer light.  It is a slice of Heaven and I am hopeful it will bring joy and optimism to your home or office.

How Aware was created.....   Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  As I often do, I laid down a VERY bright underpainting and then used a straight-edged razor blade to strip that off, leaving behind colorful stains on the mat board.  Next, I built up layers and layers of lighter colors.  Finally, I scratched the lighter colors off a few key areas and applied pure vibrant color directly on those hotspots.

Aware was completed on a white acid-free mat board.  You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment.  One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized 11" x 14" frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the drawing together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the drawing to fit the frame.  That would give you a decent sized mat border on all sides and would allow for a lovely presentation of your new drawing.
