I live in the city and I notice how little it takes to stand out, to make the world warmer and brighter.  A few flowers, a special planter, a colorful door, a flag, a lawn ornament.  Any little touch of color and devotion makes a big difference.

It is easy to get overwhelmed by the news and to believe we cannot make a difference.  That the problems of the world are just too large.  But you do not have to solve those big problems all at once.  It is enough to start with small changes.  Make the world a little brighter one room at a time.  One house at a time.  One block at a time.  One city at a time.  Any action taken with love will make a difference to someone and that is how it starts.

Often, I am approached for handouts, and I ALWAYS give something to anyone that asks.  I never care how that money is spent.  If they need it enough to ask a total stranger for help, then they need it more than I do.  So I give.  If the homeless person is on a street corner with a sign, I watch the cars ahead of me and often no one stops.  But after I share a few dollars, I watch the cars behind me and it is not unusual for several cars to stop.  Folks see a kind gesture and remember that they, too, can help.  Similarly, if you go out in your neighborhood and pick up trash, do not be surprised to see other neighbors picking up trash tomorrow or next week.

We all like to be a part of something good.  Sometimes we just get too sleepy or too caught up in our routines and we overlook opportunities to make a difference.  I would like for this special little painting to bring a bit of hope and inspiration to your home or office.

How Better was created...  I used palette knives to paint the abstract expressionist image that lies beneath the houses and I used tiny detail brushes to paint the homes and the words.

Better was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be shown on a small decorative easel.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.

You make the world a little brighter.
