Buffalo are my people. You will find a steady stream of
buffalo appearing in my work nearly from the beginning. They
comfort me. And I am grateful to live near several bison
ranches. These two fellows posed for me while enjoying a
midnight snack. Bison often appear in Native American spiritual lore as symbols of self-less giving. How Bison was created..... First, I stood at the side of the road with cars wizzing by me and sketched this out in ink. The bison snorted occasionally. And the full moon was intoxicating. Next, I used a 96 color box of Crayola crayons to add those gorgeous magical-night-colors. Crayola crayon drawings are very labor intensive and sadly I cannot find the time to work in this media very often anymore. I regret that because crayons allow for a dreamy kind of color that is unique and offers universal appeal. Everyone loves crayons! The colors in this drawing were layered and layered and layered to reach this luminous state of "stained-glass-like" warmth. After I finish working on crayon pieces, my hands ache for a couple of days from the intense pressure I have to apply to get these colors. Bison was drawn on a piece of acid-free white watercolor paper. You will want to frame this piece to protect your investment. One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized 11" x 14" frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the drawing together to a custom-framer. Ask the framer to mat the drawing to fit the frame.
