Book Magic

Books have helped me and changed me in more ways than I can say. I am eternally indebted to the author's who have bared their souls and shared their stories so that I might find my own way to a more peaceful heart. Books have healed me and comforted me and guided me and been my friends. This beautiful vibrant little painting is my way of recognizing the magic that books have worked in my own life. I am hopeful this piece will bring comfort and joy to some other book lover out there.

I frequently paint books as they fall through the air. In part, I do so because I feel that our stories come to us already written. We do not have to work so hard all of the time trying to master our destinies. It is okay to just sit back and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

How Book Magic was created... This piece has a little of everything happening. There is palette knife painting and brush painting and finger-painting. There are areas where I abraded the surface with dental tools and areas where I rubbed off the paint just after it was applied leaving only a faint haze of color. There is tight detailed work with fine lines and sharp highlights and there is bold loose expressionist work with wonderful exciting energy.

Book Magic was painted on a professional quality gallery-wrapped canvas with deep 1.5" sides. This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall. Or it can be shown on a small decorative easel. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
