Are you stuck?  Did you find yourself a pretty job or a pretty man or a pretty woman or a pretty home and now you are giving up bits and pieces of yourself to maintain something that really does not suit you?  Just because it looks good from the outside?  It is hard to hear and harder still to remember, but this message comes from a master cage-builder.  I have spent a lifetime creating unhappy rules for myself and then struggling for freedom.  So I have earned the right to share this thought with you.  You built the cage and you can set yourself free if you want to.  That is how life works.

This gorgeous little piece packs a visual punch much larger than its size might suggest.  It is filled with lovely lovely color and fine detail work and interesting textures.  And that beautiful black bird. 

The words read, "Pretty cages are still cages."

I am hopeful this unusual painting will offer you comfort, inspiration and acceptance.  And also some bright pretty colors for your walls!

How Caged was created:   I used modeling paste to add some texture and then applied many layers of color using traditional paint brushes.

Caged was painted on a small square wooden plaque. The beveled sides of the board have been painted and this piece looks great on a small display stand.  I have also added a sawtooth hanger to the back so that you can display this original painting without framing directly on the wall.  If you feel this small piece will be handled often, please request a coat of protective varnish at the time of payment.  I would be happy to add a coat at no charge.
