Proper Care & Feeding for your New Original Artwork |
When you invest in original art, it is important to protect your investment. Once original art fades or is damaged in any way, that unique one-of-a-kind vision is lost forever. So please take a moment to review some simple guidelines for protecting original works of art created in various of media. If you are unsure as to what medium was used to create your new art, please visit this page to look your artwork up by title and confirm how it was created. ACRYLIC PAINT

Acrylic on wood – This is a fairly sturdy and lasting combination. You can safely hang this artwork in any lighting conditions and you can hang this work unframed if you choose. However; framing is recommended to protect the surface of the painting from scratches or dents. Do not frame this item under glass. Some hard woods can scratch very easily, so please handle with care. Acrylic on canvas – This is a fairly sturdy and lasting combination. Colored pencil on acid-free mat board – This item is extremely light-sensitive. Do not hang this image anywhere near sunlight or it will quickly fade. Interior walls away from windows are best. This item should be matted and framed to protect it from surface damage. Whenever possible, frame with acid-free matting and glass that protects against UV rays. Do not touch the surface of this work directly, it is fragile.

Crayon on acid-free mat board – This item should not be displayed in direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight is acceptable. This image should be matted and framed under glass to protect against surface damage. Whenever possible, frame with acid-free mats. Do not touch the surface of this work directly, it is fragile.

OIL PASTEL

Oil pastel on acid-free mat board – This item is EXTREMELY fragile and should be handled with great care. The surface is easily damaged. This item should not be displayed in direct sunlight. Indirect sunlight is acceptable. This image should be matted and framed under glass to protect against surface damage as soon as possible. Do not touch the surface of this work directly. When your new oil pastel drawing arrives, it will be tightly sandwiched between cardboard pads to prevent it from shifting and smearing. It is important that you do not slide the drawing out from between the two pads. Instead, please cut the tape on all four sides and lift the top sheet of cardboard straight up in order to avoid friction and smudging.

GOUACHE

Gouache on 140lb, acid-free watercolor paper - This item is relatively light stable. It can withstand indirect sunlight, but should be kept from direct sunlight to preserve its vibrancy. The surface of this piece is stable. Still, this image should be matted and framed under glass to protect against surface damage. Whenever possible, frame with acid-free mats.

INK

Ink on acid-free mat board or 140lb watercolor paper - While only "fade-resistant" ink is used, this media is still relatively light sensitive. You will want to frame this piece under UV-resistant glass if possible, and hang it away from direct sunlight. Even indirect sunlight may degrade this image over time.
