Oh boy am I excited about this!  Every time I sat down to paint, I went to this piece first.  There are just so many possibilities here!  And the act of painting this was so much fun.  All rules go out the window when I move into pure abstraction like this.  It is scary not to have my regular points of reference, but thrilling, too.

I think about a lot of different things when I see this painting, but I will stop myself from writing about that because I want you to find your own meaning here.  But I will say that a phrase has been in my head since I first began painting years ago and I let this phrase guide me in the beginning of my career, but got more "realistic" as the years passed.  I am happy to be returning to these words.  The phrase that hides way back in my consciousness is, "Lit from within."  I like the idea of beings or objects creating their own light.  In this case, I do not think either "thing" is able to create light alone, but light occurs when they near each other.

How Chemistry was created:  Hmmm... I do not recall the exact sequence of events that brought this piece to life, but I remember using palette knives, stippling brushes, traditional paint brushes, a soft cloth, and my fingers.  This piece does NOT contain and texturing products.  I painted it to appear as though the shapes are slightly raised from the surface, but in fact the surface of the canvas is flat.

Chemistry was painted on a rigid canvas panel.  The edges of the panel have also been painted, so this piece looks lovely displayed just as it is on a small stand or decorative easel.   It could also be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
