This gorgeous cat belongs to a customer, but she reminds me strongly of my little cat that passed away a while back. Working on this piece brought back strong feelings of love and joy. I miss my cat, but I enjoy all the good memories of her that remain. And since this little one is still just a baby, it makes me happy to know will be bringing similar warmth to the home of my customer (and friend) for years to come. I had great fun creating this piece. It is challenging to capture the infinite layers and colors of torti fur, but I think it all came together beautifully in the end. This piece is much more lovely in person. How this drawing was created..... First, I laid down several different base coats of color and used a straight edged razor blade to strip each one away, leaving stains that create a vivid underpainting. Then I layered luscious colors atop that base. Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with. Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below. So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors. After I completed all of the color work, I used a dental tool to scratch through to the ink below in order to create sharper edges. Considering My Options is part of the small series I refer to as Lisa's Friends. Here they are....
