Hearts heart hearts. Is there any symbol more satisfying, more universally comforting than a heart? We know that shape from earliest childhood. From those construction paper valentines we tucked into decorated shoeboxes in first grade. This piece is not quite so innocent, though. There are lighter and darker layers here. And there are irregularities. Scratches and dents. Walls and borders. And those challenging words. They say: Try harder. Because we give up on our commitments too easily these days. We forsake each other and then wonder why life feels empty. Lasting love IS possible. But it is not always easy. Sometimes we need a reminder to let the mistakes go and just try harder. How Commitment was created..... I used palette knives, a variety of brushes, a soft cloth and a dental tool to develop this unique little piece. Commitment was painted on a thin masonite square. The edges have been painted and this piece looks lovely displayed unframed on a small plastic stand or on a display easel. Otherwise, it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no glass or matting.
