I
am working on a new series of bright open ink drawings. I call
them Cheat Sheets for life. Sometimes in school, my teachers
let students make small cheat sheets to bring with when taking
tests. You could write anything you wanted on the cheat sheet.
Anything! Usually, I never wound up using my cheat sheet for
the tests. The act of writing the stuff down had seared it
into my memory. But I made the cheat sheets anyway. And
they always looked really cool! With lots of teeny tiny
writing in all directions and wee little charts and graphs and
formulas. I figure we could all use a nice cheat sheet now and
then. These unique pieces are all one-of-a-kind original works of art. They are created with fancy artist's markers filled with India ink on nice heavy white paper. These are light-safe materials, but I still would recommend displaying these drawings somewhere away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. I created all of these pieces freehand in ink without pencil sketching first. And I do not use rulers or tools. The lettering is equally loose, not tight and precise like my painted words. These are meant to be gestural energetic pieces with expected imperfections. Here is s small sample of other pieces from this series...
You will want to frame your new artwork to protect your investment. One affordable way to frame this unique drawing would be to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer. Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame. These Cheat Sheet pieces would look lovely with a neutral mat and a low-profile frame.

The words in Cheat Sheet #1 read: There is no right way to live. There are no magic words that will make it all easy. (Top of the piece.) What if this is it? What if you die tomorrow? When will you be good enough? When will you be ready? Why not now? (In the pink box.) I believe in this moment. I believe in the power of love. I believe in miracles. I believe in you. I believe in forgiveness. I believe in trying and doing. I believe in simplicity. I believe in kindness. (In the yellow box.) You have to find your way. You have to accept the pain. You have to forgive them all. You have to let it go now. (In the red box) Fear serves a purpose. Can you accept that? Where would you be without those painful times? (Bottom of the piece.) |
