Oil pastel on acid-free mat board

(Enlarged to show details.)

I love this piece.  The colors are vibrant and lively.  And the subjects are playful and engaging.  Don't ask me what the animals are.  My guess is a kangaroo and a pig, but that is just a guess.  Whatever they are, they make me happy!

This piece will frame up BEAUTIFULLY in a neutral white mat and a simple unobtrusive frame.

How Dialog was created.....   Oil pastels are a bit tricky to work with.  Some colors cover others, some remove the layer below them, and some mix with the colors below.  So it takes lots of experience to learn the ins and outs of layering oil pastel colors.  As I often do, I laid down a VERY bright underpainting.  Then I used a straight-edged razor blade to strip that off, leaving behind colorful stains on the mat board.  Next, I built up layers and layers and layers of lighter colors.  Finally, I scratched the top colors off with a dental tool in order to create the lovely lines.  I finished this piece using a needle to scratch fun active swirling patterns throughout the background.

Dialog was drawn on acid-free white mat board.  You will want to frame this lovely drawing to protect your investment.  One affordable means of framing is to purchase a standard-sized frame at your local home store and then bring the frame and the artwork together to a custom-framer.  Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame.
