Philosophical Cats

(Doodle drawing)

Completed in 2007

3.5" x 3.5"

Ink on watercolor paper

The words in this piece read:  Do not ask me to limit what is vast.  Do not ask me to name what can never be named.  Do not ask me to explain how I know what I know.  The many secrets I keep must remain with me.  The mysteries of life are mysteries for a reason.  I have made my peace.  You will make your peace in time.  Be patient.  Meow

The artwork:

About this piece: I think this one speaks for itself!  What fun.

About this series:   These are quick quirky little sketches.  They are impulsive and uncensored.  Created without rulers or other tools.  Created on irregular pieces of mat board or watercolor paper or cardboard or whatever is handy.  There may be flaws or smudges in the margins outside the area of the actual artwork, but those will not show once the drawing is matted and framed.

The process:

This is a freehand ink drawing.

Display options:
You may want to frame your new artwork to protect your investment. One affordable way to frame these unique drawings would be to purchase standard-sized frames at your local home store and then bring the frames and the artwork together to a custom-framer. Ask the framer to mat the art to fit the frame. These pieces would look lovely with a neutral mat and a low-profile frame.

The artist:

My name is Melissa A. Robinson and I am an artist.  I took me years to feel comfortable saying that.  To feel like I deserve to use that label.  But I have finally reached that point in my career.  I am an artist.  Plain and simple.

Art is what I do.  Art is how I live.  Art is how I connect with the world.  And art is how I understand the world, too.  I don't know any other way.

I have created more than fifteen hundred original works of art and 90% of those works have sold.  My drawings, paintings, and reproductions can now be found in every US state, every Canadian province, almost every country across Europe, many cities across Asia, and in Australia.  I have the greatest customers in the world and some of them have been collecting my images since the 1990's.  Several of these wonderful art patrons own more than 50 (!!!) original pieces each.  That is amazing to me.  I am flattered and honored and inspired by the knowledge that my work connects me to so many fabulous people.

I am not an "emerging artist".  I am established in my career.  If I were to take my work to brick-and-mortar "real life" art galleries and stop selling online, I would expect the retail value of my pieces to double.  But I love the experience of selling directly to my customers and I am inspired by my relationships that have developed through this means of selling.

My artwork comes in many flavors and styles because I have Attention Deficit Disorder and I like to change things up all the time.  So when you browse my images, you may see landscapes, animals, portraits, abstracts, expressive pieces, symbols, words, and every color in the rainbow.  You will see acrylic paintings, watercolor and gouache paintings, colored pencil drawings, crayola crayon drawings, oil pastel pieces, inks drawings, collages and digital pieces.  My works come in a range of sizes also, but I am partial to smaller sizes.  I like the intimacy of creating and viewing smaller images.  And I like to see many smaller pieces grouped together as opposed to one giant canvas.

To me, art is a means for people to connect.  It is a chance to reassure one another that we are in this together, a chance to steady one another in the face of uncertainty.

Feedback:

If you have never purchased from me before and are hesitant about buying art on the internet, you are not alone.  It can be a risky business.  But I have been selling art online since the Spring of 2000 and I have 100% positive feedback.  I recently asked a few customers to send me comments about their experiences with FlyingGirl Art.  Here are some of the responses...

I love the sense of spirit, love, and whimsy that seems to radiate from you directly into your beautiful work.  There's something that just grabs my soul!  I've been a customer for about a year, I think, and have four pieces of original fine art as well as some of the fun magnets and notepads.  I also love to share your work and have purchased fine art, giclee prints, and merchandise as gifts for special people in my life.  You make buying beautiful art so easy and are always incredibly helpful and generous.  --  Erica S. from Ohio, EBay ID:  fbama1215

Melissa is an amazing artist and a great seller. She really cares about her customers. She makes sure that her customers are always satisfied. Her attention to detail is awesome not only in her art but also in her customer relations.  I have been shopping with FlyingGirl since 2004.  I now own more than 100 original fine art pieces by Melissa and more than 60 Tiny Art pieces.  -- Alicia M. from Ontario, Canada, EBay ID:  Argus2M

After stumbling upon her work quite by accident, I have become a passionate fan and collector of Melissa Robinson's art. I am addicted to visiting her website regularly to see her new art and read her news. I now own four original pieces (and wish it were more!) and several prints.  I purchase and frame her postcards as gifts. I can't speak highly enough of her talent, the quality of the fine art she produces, and the ease (and fun!) of every transaction. Her strong artistic voice shines through in every painting!  --  Jeanne D. from Illinois, EBay ID:  jeanze*art

Melissa’s art and Melissa are like part of our family now.  She is the rare individual who does beautiful work and yet handles her ebay business with efficiency and complete professionalism.  A pleasure to work with and art that touches your soul, she is the perfect combination. --  Ebay ID: Mxmarcy

Your art is outstanding!  As I said with my first purchase, wish I would have found you before I redid my condo as I would have your artwork everywhere.  You are such an inspiration.  You go above and beyond with quick shipment and special extras.  They and you are appreciated.  --  Linda S. of Florida, EBay ID:  sunflowerbloom25

Melissa Robinson is an exceptionally talented artist.  I love her portrayal of animals illustrating the frailties and joys of the human condition.  I love the vibrancy and whimsical nature of her work.  Melissa's works are displayed throughout my home and classroom-a menagerie of wonder and awe celebrating the beauty of life!  --  Barbara B. from California, EBay ID:  OrangeBiscuit

I stumbled across Melissa's art by chance while surfing the internet. I instantly fell in love with her work and had to have one of her paintings right there and then. Since that day I've been able to purchase more of her work; frankly I always count myself very lucky to own such uplifting and beautiful work. Oh yes, Melissa's shipping to me here in Wales has been fast and reliable. Her work is a dream.

Melissa's paintings are rare gems, if you ever have even half a chance to own one I seriously suggest that you do.  --  Colin from Wales, EBay ID:  BillyHologram

I bought my first piece of Tiny Art from Melissa in 2004 and have been an avid fan of her work ever since. Her attention to detail, love of color and texture and amazing combination of the written and visual keep me coming back for more. I love the emotional aspect of her work and feel many of her pieces have spoken directly to my heart. I would recommend her art to anyone looking for inspiration, emotion and connection in an artist.  --  Darcy S., from Atlanta, eBay ID: ArtGirl70
