In my description for Holy Holy, I explained my reluctance to write about the content in some of my newer pieces.  So of course I now have a new piece that I want to write about in detail.  To offer those of you who prefer your art unexplained a chance to enjoy this piece without my comments, I am going to post my thoughts about Egg on a separate page.  Please click here if you would like to read my words about the content in this painting.

This is a lovely elegant image filled with subtle hues and soft shading and sensitive details.  I am hoping that Egg will bring warmth and inspiration to the home or office of some fellow dreamer out there.

How Egg was created...  After the black gesso primer dried, I applied fine artist grade stucco in a wide swatch along the top of the canvas and in a narrower stripe near the bottom of the canvas.  Before the stucco dried, I pushed foam rubber alphabet stamps into the textured surface and embedded the word, "life!" in that stucco area at the top of the canvas.  Once the stucco dried, I used a variety of brushes to layer color all across this piece.  And I continued to layer color over the course of several days.  Finally, I finished this painting with tiny 18/0 detail brushes, adding that exquisite egg a few important highlights and lowlights.

(The image continues around the staple-free sides so you can display your new artwork unframed.  This is a digital photo, the scans above are more accurate.)

Egg was painted on a gallery-wrapped canvas with .75" staple-free sides.  This piece would look wonderful displayed unframed directly on the wall.  Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it required no matting or glass.
