We have trees here in Minnesota that are a gorgeous deep burgundy color. Sometimes they almost look black, other times they range from warm red to rich purple. These trees are not rare, but they are not all that common either. And I have watched for them since I was a kid. They have always been my favorite trees. Of course, I love beautiful warm green trees, too. But those dark ones stick out and they always call to me. Some of us are born different. And maybe there are folks who accept what they are early on and live in peace, but most of us struggle. It seems like average folks long to be special and special folks long to be average. How crazy! Do you think those beautiful dark trees wish they were green? And do you think the green trees get jealous of the deep dark red leaves that make those few so special? I am hopeful this beautiful vibrant painting will warm the home of some other unique soul out there. How Exception was created... After the black gesso primer dried, I applied fine artist grade stucco on all sides of the canvas allowing that texture to appear on the edges of the picture plane as well, creating a nice "frame" for the painting. Once the stucco dried, I used a variety of brushes to layer color all across this piece. I also used a dry cloth to rub on more transparent layers. I finished this painting with tiny 18/0 detail brushes, creating that peaceful scene.. Exception was painted on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. The sides of this piece DO have staples but they are covered by layers of texture and color and they do not show at all. This painting looks lovely displayed as it is without framing either directly on the wall or on a small decorative easel or stand. Or it can be easily and affordably framed as it requires no matting or glass. **** (If you are the type who likes to research, these beautiful trees are called Crimson King Maple trees. And I found a great online resource that explains the origins of the phrase included in this painting.
